Collection: Toby Atkins
Toby Atkins is a London-based artist. His diverse artistic influences include anatomical illustration, mythology, anthropomorphism, natural-history illustration, blues music, ukiyo-e print masters, samurai films, victorian advertising and 50's graphic novels.
Whilst in Hokkaido (second biggest island of Japan) Toby visited the beer museum in Sapporo, here he came across beer posters that Sapporo, Kirin, and Asahi beer companies had produced at the turn of the century. Years later, during his final year of university he did his own take on the posters, combining their traditional aesthetic of old Japan, the ukiyo-e prints that he originally fell in love with (in this case the work of Hokusai and Utamaro) but with a fresher, more modern colour scheme.
